WHALE TAIL

This is Konagi’s “Ocean” series of ceramic art/ sculpture - drawing from his experience as a surfer and the playful, free, and often introspective quality that water brings. The series’ use of color, naive motifs, and nostalgic imagery reconnects viewers to a sense of wonder and childhood delight.

Furthering the device of oceanic play, “Whale Tail” is a more direct approach to the whimsy the artist is capturing in the water. Through the use of repetition, “Fins” becomes “Whale Tail”, reinforcing the connections of humans to nature, keeping the use of color to create continuity between the symbols.
