FIN

This is Konagi’s “Ocean” series of ceramic art/ sculpture - drawing from his experience as a surfer and the playful, free, and often introspective quality that water brings. The series’ use of color, naive motifs, and nostalgic imagery reconnects viewers to a sense of wonder and childhood delight. 

Drawing inspiration from his own practice of surfing, “Fins” is one form within the “Ocean” series. Informed by the fluid lines of the fin found in both nature and in surfing, the smooth lines and soft shape tie the motif to an identity in the water. Whether a fin on the back of an animal or underneath a board, the shape symbolically ties us to nature.
